The subphylum Chelicerata includes spiders, scorpions, ticks, mites, horseshoe crabs, etc. The separated palp remains attached to the female's epigynum for about four hours and apparently continues to function independently. At first read, that sounds like some scientist just has a coke addiction of his own, access to a lot of bees and an unwillingness to drive downtown, but the bees in question were searching for literal sugar, and not more of the nose kind. The lateral pair of spinning organs (spinnerets) at the end of the abdomen are longer and easily visible in Atrax spp. but often shorter in Hadronyche spp. During the time they are in the cocoon, the caterpillar changes into a butterfly. A powerful muscle in the cephalothorax squeezes fluids from the body into the legs to make them expand. If you live in the great plains, or a heavy forest area, use one of the following: praying mantis, spiders, ants (black or fire ants, if you want more of a challenge), beetles, and grasshoppers.
